Pienaar Celebrates his Goal
The English Premier League title was thrown open once again, as knotty Everton proved a difficult nut for Man U to crack. The Merseyside club shared points with United in an eight-goal thriller at Old Trafford. It brings to memory Arsenal’s clashes against Liverpool and Newcastle in previous seasons. Everton’s coach, Moyes, continue to build on his enviable CV of producing desiring results from his modest team. Games like this make the Premier league the attraction of millions, as no match is predictable. Like I mentioned in my recent posts, we’ll experience alot of twists and turns in this season’s title run.
Just 13 days ago, many gave the title to Man U, after Arsenal defeated Man City, with United going 8 points clear at the top of the table. But after the 4-4 dram with Everton, and Man City's 2-0 win over relegated Wolves, Man U still manage to lead the table with just three (3) points. The lead become inconsequential and tentative as both teams are set to meet at the Etihad Stadium on the 30th. If Man City comes out victorious in that encounter, they will automatically leapfrog United, as they presently enjoy a 6 goal advantage over their rivals.
Van Persie and Arsenal refused to score as they ran out with a goalless draw with London rivals, Chelsea. In a game they dominated, victory was needed as the scramble for the third position tarries on. Fellow contenders, Tottenham, lost to struggling QPR as they continue on their poor run of defeats. This loss gave Newcastle the opportunity to climb back into the top four, as their fairy-tale season goes on. But can they realistically make the top four this season? Their remaining fixtures against Wigan, Chelsea, Man City and Everton may prove to be fiercer tests than they imagine.
Liverpool suffered their twelfth (12th) loss of the season in the hands of former Coach, Roy Hudson, as Westbrom ran out 1-0 winners. Osaze buried one of the few chances they had, to lift Westbrom to 10th position in on the table. Dalglish must do more to convince the Kop owners and the world of football that he is the right man for the job.
What more can we expect from the most dramatic league in the world.... all eyes are now fixed on April 30th as the mother of all Derbies decides who lifts the league trophy.
Tell us your moments of intrigue in this past weekend.
