The Israeli has been on a season-long loan at Arsenal from Chelsea. He displayed terrific form and ability in his days at Liverpool. In a bid to step up his career, he joined Chelsea in July 2010; but a long term injury shortly afterwards, hampered his breakthrough into the first team.
With the changes in the management rank at Chelsea and lack of first team action, he opted for a move to Arsenal…a move that was applauded by many, me inclusive. Unfortunately, he has suffered same neglect he received at Chelsea. His comments yesterday about the uncertainty of his future picture the confusion of the 31 years old player.
In my candid view, he deserves a better treatment and first team action, especially at Arsenal. Though he faces a stiff competition from the likes of Gervinho, Walcott, Chamberlain, Ramsey and surprisingly in-form Rosicky; the stats shows that he has amazing influence in games, especially as an attacking midfielder.
Apart from Van Persie, he has the best ratio in goals scored. He has scored four (4) goals in a meager eleven (11) starts for Arsenal. Fellow midfielders with same number of goals have more starts. Chamberlain and Gervinho both have four (4) goals each, with 14 and 23 starts respectively. Arteta has managed six (6) goals in an astonishing 36 starts.
I just hope that Arsenal can retain and give him more opportunity to display his talent and experience, as age drags his career to its climax.
