Liverpool played a revenge game last night, by trashing Chelsea 4-1. The score line gave the exact description of the match, showing the dominance of the Merseyside team. But their vengeance can be termed as late, because their fans would have appreciated it more, had they produced similar performance three days earlier when Chelsea lifted the FA cup by beating them 2-1.
Andy Carroll who came as a substitute at Wembley and scored the only goal for Liverpool, started last night’s game and looked lively throughout the game. He caused John terry a lot of troubles, one of them resulting to the third goal. Suarez's whirly runs continued to rattle the defence line the London side.
Suarez forces an own goal from Essien
Agreed, Chelsea made changes to the side by giving some fringe players a run. We saw the introduction of Goalkeeper Turnbull, Ferreira, Essien, Romeu and even almost-forgotten Lukaku. But that cannot be seen as the primary cause of their defeat, because the major culprits were first team players in the shape of John Terry and Ivanovic. Yeah, Turnbull contributed by a sloppy play which led to the fourth goal, but we must admit that he didn’t receive the usual protection and cover enjoyed by Peter Cech. The defeat spelt that no matter what happens in their last game, Chelsea are bound to finish sixth on the table...worst ever in 10 years, when they finished in similar position.
Slipping Master
Should Di Matteo be blamed? NO. AVB should be held responsible for his poor reign. Though, calm Di Matteo shouldn’t be too calm, especially in crucial games like this last one. I expected him to issue some instruction to the players, coz they need it when undergoing defeat. He should also learn to throw some wild cards once the game is turning against him. He didn’t make changes that could positively affect the score line.
Will this result affect his chances of landing the job on a permanent basis? I Hope not, he should be given a full season trial...but you can never predict Roman!
