Tangles Continues....

Though stale, for the records I would like to have an overview of the premier league last weekend. It was a weekend that replicated what the premiership has evolved into....an interesting drama. On Saturday, Arsenal let two vital points slip off their hands when they met with stubborn Stoke. They needed a Van Persie equaliser to claim a point after Crouch put Stoke in front. Newcastle suffered a surprising 4-0 wallop in the hands of resurgent Wigan. While this result placed a dent on Newcastle’s top-four chase, it reaffirms that Wigan’s result against other top teams recently wasn’t a fluke. Roberto Martinez is my sure bet for manager of the month.
Come Sunday, Torres raised all eye brows when he sunk relegation-threatened QPR with a hat-trick. This came after his beautiful winner in Nou camp...he is really making a statement that he’s finally settling into the team. Moreover, kudos to Di Matteo, he seems to have unlocked the door to Torres’ goals. There is no better time for him to hit form than now...as that gives us a glimpse of what to expect next season, and also increases his chance of making the Spanish squad to the Euros this summer.
Monday was graced with what I termed the English Clasico. The Mighty Manchester derby has never met so much to either fans than this season. It wasn’t just a derby, it was a title decider. If the reds of Manchester win, they will go SIX points clear with two games to go; while if the blue side win, they will be level on points with United, but will top the league with goals advantage.
The encounter lived up to expectation, and a Vincent Kompany’s header meant that he leads his team to the top of the league with EIGHT goals advantage. City had total control of the game throughout the 90 mins, with waves of attacking threats from the likes of Nasri, Tevez, Aguero and Yaya Toure. Sir Alex was really unimpressed with his team’s performance and especially at Smalling, for failing to keep the ball from reaching Vincent which led to the lone goal.
There was a bust-up between both coaches, but that just goes to show the passionate effect of the game on all.
With two games to go, we all look forward to the interesting climax of the epic. Manchester city still have to beat Newcastle and QPR to lift the trophy, while United have to win against Swansea and Sunderland and hope for a slip on the part of City, if they are to have any hope of getting the winners’ medal.
