Utaka, the Attacker
I guess it was a big weekend for African stars abroad. While Didier helped Chelsea to their first ever champions league title, Nigerian John Utaka’s two goals handed his club, Montpellier their first league title. The former 30 years old attacker moved from Portsmouth to the French league this summer, and has assisted the side to lift the ultimate title in France. His two goals against Auxerre, made sure that the title is won, although a draw would have been good enough to guarantee them as league winners. The game was a tight one, as Auxerre were the first to score, putting the league leaders under pressure. But counter response by beautiful team player saw the Nigerian on the score sheet twice, ending the game 2-1 final score. The Cup will be presented to them on Monday in their home ground.
Title contenders and big spenders PSG were also playing Lorient and were hoping that Montpellier loss their game, if they are to stand a chance of lifting the trophy. They also won with a 2-1 scoreline; but Carlo Ancelotti and his men will have to wait till next season for them to challenge for the title again.
Meanwhile, both matches were halted at intervals to control fans that threw fireballs, toilet rolls and tennis ball on the pitch to disrupt the game.

Montpellier and PSG have now secured automatic qualifications for themselves, with third place Lille playing qualifiers; while on the relegation side, we find Caen, Dijon and Lorient relegated from French top-flight football.
Congratulations to Montpellier!
