Brendan Rogers
Liverpool has appointed Brendan Rogers as Kenny Dalglish’s replacement today. The former Swansea coach who was appraised as having done a nice job with the Swans last season, has been rewarded with a big job at Merseyside. The 39 years old will now be in charge of the Kops who haven’t won the league title in TWENTY years. Before Rogers was selected, loads of feeders pointed to Wigan Boss, Roberto Martinez as the favored replacement; but talks broke down early this week. This led the Liverpool owners back to the first man they contacted after Kenny’s exit. Though he rejected the first approach, he gave the second chance a positive consideration and has landed the job.
Martinez was said to have rejected Liverpool’s offer because it didn’t give him the total control he desired. His role was to be under the paw-view of a Director of football. This didn’t go well with the Spaniard, and he decided to stay back at Wigan.
My take… Rogers did a nice job at Swansea last season, helping them to finish 11th on the table; he has experience of working with Big players-an experience he acquired from his time at Chelsea where he worked under the ‘Special One’; but can all these guarantee him control of the Liverpool dressing room? Only time will tell…I haven’t forgotten a certain AVB so soon. Roberto’s decision to stay at Wigan is strongly supported by me…better to live like a Lion in the jungle, than a dog in the City.
Congratulation Rogers…your time starts NOW….
