The transfer market has been slow as all the clubs are exercising caution, because the Uefa financial fair rule takes effect soon. Personally I was expecting Man City to be bullying rival clubs with so much money, and racking more players into their team; but contrary to expectation, the reigning English Champions have shown restraint in the market. Although feeders from the club says that the coach, Mancini, is frustrated because the club has taken a stand that until one of the big-earning strikers (Tevez, Adebayo, Cruz, Dzeko) leave the club, no addition will be made. This stand have slowed or stalled Van Persie’s movement.
Seriously, I am pissed with the way the Van Persie’s story has crawled. This is not only disgraceful to the club, but also disrespectful to the fans, who have to wait to see the finale of the sour issue. Therefore, I am not going to join the crowd who have blown this matter out of proportion. So this is the LAST time I’ll say a thing on the subject.....until he either makes the move, or decides to stay.
Laurent Koscielny
On a brighter note, Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny has signed a new long term contract with the club. At least that will be good news for the fans, who are always losing their players at their peak and on the last year of their contract. Probably, the club have learnt from the bitter lessons of Nasri, Van Persie and Walcott. Although, there have been renewed hope of keeping the fast-footed midfielder. He (Walcott) confirmed that talks are ongoing in other to extend his deal with the club.
Santi Cazorla
This afternoon many newsrooms also had it that Arsenal are closing in on recruiting 27 years old Spanish attacking midfielder, Santi Cazorla, in a deal worth about £16m. But some other reports have refuted this as mere rumour. I just hope this isn’t a rumour. He will be a valuable addition to the squad. He was part of the historic Spanish team that won both the World Cup (2010) and Euro 2012.
Another transfer that has annoyed me apart from the Van Persie’s saga is that of Tottenham’s Luka Modric. For God’s sake, let this man GO! Last season we saw this same drama when he was contacted by Chelsea. They turned down a £40m bid for him! Now Real Madrid wants this man for £35m (which is a fair price, in my own opinion), but Tot’ham’s Chairman, David Levy, has refused to let this player progress. This time he has hinged his refusal on the excuse of his sick wife! How are those two different situations related? He is also not willing to listen any offer less £40m. To make his stand bluntly known, Modric refused to join the team for the pre-season tour. And what happened... he was threatened to be fined for everyday he stays out of training. The smart young man has dutifully returned to training; but they should cut the crap, and allow the player go. Tottenham are a small club, compared to the ones bidding for the player...they should accept this limitation and expect situations like this to arise. They must learn to treat them decently, and avoid these mud-slinging acts.
Oscar
Still in London, Chelsea’s move for Oscar is in a “very advanced stage”, according to Internacional president. After the young man has toned down his movement, by saying that he just had a meeting with Chelsea’s Doctors (I wonder the business he would have with them that is not transfer-related), his club president has clarified the issue, stating that a move is imminent. Nice move, though it may cost more than what I may approve.
Does my approval/opinion count?
