A 3-1 lose to Westham will show all that the man at the helm presently won't bring Torres' magic back, neither will he take them to any fantasized Barca-like glory!

Am waiting patiently to hear Wenger's defense at the end of the season when Arsenal finishes trophyless and outside the top-four ( which is his only bragging right presently). The Tottenham team which was the last we defeated has continued their impressive run. They have stubbornly held on to their main players like Defoe and Bale, and have even strengthen the side with premiership gurus in the likes of Demsey and Dembele. I even heard from a reliable source that the much-talked-about capped wages of Arsenal is higher than that of Tottenham who had a decent run last season, and also finished in the top-four.
My humble submission after the horrendous defeat is: Wenger should resign honorably, now that he still has some reputation left...the ovation is dieing down.

What about the lazy headed players? They must also receive a part of the stroke. I wonder were pride has gone in football. Big transfer money has blurred the vision of many players, and they play only to be recognized and move to so-called Big clubs. The present crop of Arsenal players must go home and put their heads in their butts. When I sit to watch an Arsenal game these days, all I see is scared players running about. The possession game Arsenal used to hold as solace is gone. They don't kick the ball around brilliantly any more. The play is now so flat and unconvincing.
I can go on and on on this issue, but the bottomline is: Wenger should either make a U-turn and spend on quality players; or, stick to his guns and resign!

I quite agree with the fact that the board and coach should take the blame on the fall of the team, however I won't ascribe any blame to the players. Arsenal has consistently over the years weakened the nucleus of the team by selling their best players at the end of every season. While it is true they buy new ones at the start of the season, the question to be asked is: is the nucleus of the team stronger than the season before? In retrospect, an Arsenal team with RVP, Cesc, Nasri & Flamini with new buys would have been capable of competing with any of England's top teams but alas that's all a dream. Personally, I have learnt not to take the game too seriously because really its just a GAME and if I were a member of the board, I would be happy with my returns. With the new deals I don't see the profitability of Arsenal diminishing in the coming years if they continue with their frugal policy.
ReplyDeleteI see a lot of emotion in your write up and I advise you to save this kinda emotion for a woman who deserves it than a sports club. As I have said before, there is a lot Europeans clubs and fans need to learn from their American counterparts when it comes to supporting clubs.
lol...Soj has nailed it. Well, writing without passion kills the art. Most times you have to live in your work. This passion cannot be channeled to a woman, it may be too strong for her and may consume her.
ReplyDeleteFor the players, remember that even when the so-called nucleus were around, the club still struggled due to their lack of dedication...some spent 8 years with the club and couldn't turn things around.
Also put into consideration that if some of those players didn't leave, there won't be need for some we have now. There is always a number of top players you can keep together at a time.
